First Harvest of Purple Sweet Potatoes in Bongkasa Pertiwi: A Manifestation of Sustainable Synergy in Agriculture, Health, and Culture

The Research and Community Service Team of the Doctoral Program in Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, expressed gratitude for the successful implementation of research and community service activities in Bongkasa Pertiwi Village, Badung Regency, Bali, during the 2025–2026 period. This activity culminated in the first harvest of a local Balinese purple sweet potato variety, which not only represents a triumph for agriculture but also a strategic step in integrating health, the economy, and the preservation of local culture.

Purple sweet potatoes, known for their rich antioxidants and health benefits, are expected to become an icon of village agriculture and a basic ingredient for the development of functional food products. Through collaboration with the Purple Sweet Potato Farmers Group, the team is working on diversifying processed products such as flour, chips, and natural extracts that have the potential to support community well-being and become part of local food-based health interventions.

This activity was made possible thanks to strong synergy between the Faculty of Medicine of Udayana University, the Bali Provincial Government, the Badung Regency Government, the Bongkasa Pertiwi Village Government, PT Varash, the Village-Owned Enterprise (Bumdes), and the entire local community. This multi-stakeholder support is a crucial foundation for the program's sustainability.

This activity report is prepared as a form of academic and social accountability, as well as a strategic document for follow-up planning. The team hopes this initiative will continue to develop into a sustainable, science-based, and value-based model for village empowerment.
