Doctoral promotion exam dr. Pande Ayu Naya Kasih Permatananda, M.Biomed News and Activities
DENPASAR – The Doctoral Program in Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK UNUD), held its Open Doctoral Promotion Examination on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. During the defense, Dr. Pande Ayu Naya Kasih Permatananda, M.Biomed., successfully defended her dissertation and was officially inaugurated as a new doctor.
Promovenda, a student in the 2023/2024 intake, previously completed Phase I of her Final Examination (Closed Examination) on March 30, 2026. In her dissertation, she examined the potential of natural ingredients as therapeutic agents for diabetes, with the title:
"The Effect of Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum) Ethanol Extract on Blood Glucose Levels, Malondialdehyde, Superoxide Dismutase, Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha, and Liver Damage in a Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetes Model of Rats (Rattus norvegicus)."
Open Session Procedure
The session proceeded solemnly through three main stages: the dissertation presentation, a question-and-answer session by the promoter and objector teams, and a question-and-answer session by invited academics. The examining panel appreciated the scientific reasoning of the proposed research and the research's contribution to explaining the protective effects of Tulsi extract on liver damage in diabetic patients.
The team of promoters supervising this research consisted of:
Promoter: Prof. Dr. dr. I Wayan Putu Sutirta Yasa, M.Si.
Co-promoter I: Dr. I Wayan Sumardika, S.Ked., M.Med.Ed., Ph.D.
Co-promoter II: Dr. dr. Made Ratna Saraswati, Sp.PD-KEMD., FINASIM.
In addition to the promoter team, the scientific quality of the proposed research was comprehensively examined by seven objectors, who are professors and experts in their fields, as well as five invited academics who provided strategic input for future research development.
Confession of Degree
Following a graduation meeting that considered the candidate's academic achievements during the study period, research diligence, and the candidate's ability to defend their dissertation, the chairperson of the examination determined that the dissertation was accepted and the candidate was declared PASSED.
With this result, Dr. Pande Ayu Naya Kasih Permatananda, M.Biomed., was officially conferred as the 496th Doctor in the Doctoral Program in Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University.
"Starting today, you are granted the right to use the title of Doctor with all the rights, obligations, and honors that come with it. On behalf of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, we congratulate Dr. Pande Ayu Naya Kasih Permatananda, M.Biomed., and his family on today's success," concluded the chairperson.
