Workshop "Sidhakarya Meditation: From the Sacred Stage to Evidence-Based Science" News and Activities

`

The Faculty of Medicine of Udayana University held a scientific workshop entitled "Developing a Sidhakarya Meditation Module: From a Sacred Stage to Evidence-Based Science" on Friday (September 19th), as part of the Doctoral Program in Medical Science. The event was officially opened by the Head of the Bali Provincial Health Office and attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, marking the institution's commitment to integrating local wisdom into modern healthcare.

The workshop invited spiritual leaders, Balinese cultural figures, and academic experts from the fields of medicine and health sciences to collaborate on designing a scientifically tested Balinese tradition-based meditation module. The main idea was to transform Sidhakarya Meditation—inspired by the Pajegan Sidhakarya Mask Dance—into a mind-body intervention applicable in psychosomatic therapy, stress management, and chronic disease rehabilitation.

Dr. I Gusti Ngurah Putra Eka Santosa, M.Fis, a doctoral candidate who has been researching and practicing this practice for over ten years, explained how the six characters in the mask dance are associated with six fragments of human consciousness. This relationship was then analyzed using modern psychological approaches, particularly ego state theory, and developed into a systematic psychophysiological protocol.

The workshop discussions demonstrated strong academic support from various disciplines, paving the way for this module to become one of the first scientifically grounded, culturally based medical interventions in Indonesia. This initiative aligns with Udayana University's vision as a superior, independent university rooted in local cultural values.
