The Doctoral Program in Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, held an open doctoral promotion defense on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, with the doctoral candidate, Dr. I Putu Kurniyanta, Sp.An., KAP.

This doctoral promotion defense was held after the doctoral candidate passed the Phase I Final Examination (Closed Examination) held on September 8, 2025. In the open defense, the doctoral candidate defended his dissertation entitled:

"The Effects of Combining General Anesthesia with Ropivacaine Continuous Caudal Block Compared to General Anesthesia on Interleukin-1?, Interleukin-6, Pain, Early Enteral Nutrition, and Length of Hospitalization in Pediatric Patients After Urethroplasty."

The doctoral promotion defense consisted of three stages: a dissertation presentation by the doctoral candidate, a question-and-answer session by the opposing panel, and a question-and-answer session by invited academics. In the first stage, the candidate presented the results of their dissertation research for 15 minutes before the examining committee and the invited guests.

After the presentation, the hearing continued with a question and answer session by the opposing panel, consisting of:

The scientific discussion session then continued with a question and answer session with invited academics, which provided an opportunity for academics to submit questions and provide input on the research presented.

After the entire examination series was completed, the team of promoters and objectors held a graduation meeting to determine the outcome of the candidate's dissertation. Based on considerations of academic achievement during the study period, diligence in research, the results of the first phase of the examination, the candidate's ability to defend the dissertation, and the duration of the study, it was decided that the candidate's dissertation was accepted and declared successful.

With this approval, Dr. I Putu Kurniyanta, Sp.An., KAP officially received his Doctor of Medical Sciences degree and is the 481st doctorate in the Doctor of Medical Sciences Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University.

The research conducted is expected to contribute scientifically to the development of anesthesia practice in pediatric patients, particularly regarding the use of a combination of general anesthesia with continuous caudal ropivacaine block to reduce the inflammatory response, decrease postoperative pain, support early enteral nutrition, and accelerate patient recovery.
