Doctoral promotion exam dr. I Gede Budhi Setiawan, Sp.B.Subsp. Onk(K) News and Activities

DENPASAR – The Doctoral Program in Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK UNUD) held its Open Doctoral Promotion Examination on Friday, March 6, 2026. During the examination, Dr. I Gede Budhi Setiawan, Sp.B.Subsp. Onk(K) successfully completed the series of examinations and officially received his doctorate.

This achievement was achieved after the doctor passed the Phase I Final Examination (Closed Examination) on September 4, 2025. In the open examination, led by a panel of examiners, the doctor defended his dissertation entitled:

"The Effect of Ethanol Extract of Nyale Sea Worms (Eunice sp.) on Alpha-Glucosidase Enzyme Activity, Blood Glucose Levels, Nuclear Factor Kappa B, and Glutathione Peroxidase in Male Wistar Rats (Rattus norvegicus) with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus."

The Open Dissertation Process

The dissertation was conducted comprehensively in three stages: presentation, question and answer session by the opposing team, and question and answer session by invited academics. The examination panel's assessment focused on the depth of scientific reasoning as well as the contribution and practical value of the research findings to the medical world.

Promovendus defended his dissertation under the guidance of a team of promoters consisting of:

Promoter: Prof. Dr. dr. I Wayan Sudarsa, Sp.B.Subsp.Onk(K)

Co-promoter I: Prof. Dr. dr. Putu Anda Tusta Adiputra, Sp.B.Subsp.Onk(K)

Co-promoter II: Dr. dr. Luh Putu Ratna Sundari, S.Ked., M.Biomed

In addition to the promoting team, the quality of this research was also assessed by seven dissertors consisting of professors and experts in their fields, as well as five invited academics who provided strategic input for future research development.

Confession of Degree

Following a graduation meeting that considered the candidate's academic achievements during their studies, diligence in research, and the candidate's ability to defend their dissertation, the chairperson of the examination determined that the dissertation was accepted and the candidate was declared PASSED.

With this result, Dr. I Gede Budhi Setiawan, Sp.B.Subsp. Onk(K) was officially conferred as the 484th Doctor in the Doctoral Program of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University.

"Starting today, you are granted the right to use the title of Doctor with all the rights, obligations, and honors that come with it. On behalf of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, we congratulate Dr. dr. I Gede Budhi Setiawan, Sp.B.Subsp. Onk(K) and his family on today's success," concluded the chairperson in his remarks.
